WATERCOLOR and GOUACHE PAINTINGS

Barbara Tapp is primarily a plein air painter in watercolor and recently gouache. Her focus is to capture scenes of life and their natural arrangements. Having worked over 35 years as an architectural illustrator for both architects and the real estate industry Barbara has seen alot, sketched thousands of houses and observed the way people live. Barbara has an insatiable curiosity and hunts for stories to paint about, she particularly enjoys painting series on varying subjects from the sea to industrial to domestic topics. Barbara loves complicated perspective often asking herself "How on earth am I going to tell this story". As a child Barbara loved coloring books, dot to dot books and Beatrix Potter where she was taken into scenes of everyday life. Looking at the pictures in The Tale of Two Bad Mice caused her to fall in love with mice so she had pet mice. 3 years working in the art department at Sydneys' Taronga Zoo  after graduation gave her tons of experience sketching animals, then travel in the late 70s to Europe for 18months brought her to San Francisco where she raised her family. Barbara has resided near Berkeley, California for 40 years where she hasn't stopped drawing and now the outdoors is her studio.
